1951 Lick
1951 Lick, provisional designation 1949 OA, is a 6-kilometer sized asteroid that crosses the orbit of Mars. It was discovered on July 26, 1949 by American astronomer Carl Wirtanen at Lick Observatory on the summit of Mount Hamilton, California.〔 The spectral type of the asteroid is that of a rare A-type with its surface consisting of almost pure olivine.〔 As of November 2015, only 17 minor planets of this type are known.〔 It orbits the Sun at a distance of 1.3–1.5 AU once every 1.64 years (599 days). Its orbit is heavily tilted by 39 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic, with a semimajor axis of 1.39 AU and an eccentricity of 0.061.〔 It has a geometric albedo of about 0.09 and a rotation period of 5.3 hours.〔〔〔 The asteroid was named in honor of James Lick (1796–1876), American philanthropist and the founder of the Lick Observatory of the University of California. He is also honored by a lunar crater ''Lick''.〔 == References ==
